UWaterloo Calendar Dates 2024-2025 | Waterloo Important Dates. The UWaterloo Important Dates is a guide for the University of Waterloo students to know semester start dates, registration dates, add/drop dates, holidays, reading weeks, exam dates, other important academic dates, and deadlines.

At the University of Waterloo, the academic year is divided into three terms, each lasting four months. The Fall semester is from September to December, the Winter semester is from January to April, and the Spring semester is from May to August. There are about 12 weeks of classes followed by roughly two or three weeks of exams.

Students who are in 1.5 units or more are considered full-time students at Uwaterloo. Anything between 0.25-1.25 is considered part-time. Students registered with AccessAbility Services may be considered full-time with a minimum of 1.0 units.

1. Course Selection Period for Winter 2025 is from September 23, 2024 to October 3, 2024.
2. Registered students can begin to view, in Quest, their next term’s class (Winter 2025) schedule and appointment time on November 17, 2024.
3. Drop/Add Period begins for winter term 2025 from November 21, 2024 to November 22, 2024. The Drop/Add Period begins with individualized Quest appointment times. The Add Period continues for all students until the last day to add a class.
4. Add Period begins (open enrolment) on November 23, 2024. It is the first day of the Drop/Add Period where all undergraduate students have equal access to make changes to their term class schedule (add, drop, swap) in Quest. The Add Period continues for all students until the last day to add a class.
5. Tuition and fees are due for Winter 2025 on December 15, 2024. You need to Pay in full or become “Fees Arranged”; late fees apply after this date and/or access to LEARN may be affected.
6. Opt-out of optional/voluntary fees deadline is December 15, 2024.
7. Fees Arranged Extension fees begin on December 16, 2024.
8. The University of Waterloo holiday closure is on January 1, 2025. No classes and offices are closed.
9. The New Year’s Day holiday is taken on Monday, January 2 2025.
10. The co-operative work term begins on January 9, 2025. Actual dates may vary depending on the employer or student requirements.
11. UWaterloo Winter 2025 classes start on January 9, 2025.
12. Reserves on most classes will be removed on January 16, 2025, opening the remaining spaces to all students.
13. Add Period ends on January 20, 2025. It is the last day to add a class for Winter 2025.
14. Not Fees Arranged (NFA) holds are applied to students who are not yet Fees Arranged for the term on January 21, 2025.
15. January 27, 2025 is the last day to drop a class from the academic record. The Drop Period ends on January 27. Classes dropped prior to or on this day will be removed from the academic record.
16. January 27, 2025 is the tuition and fee refund deadline – 100%
17. Drop with WD begins on January 28, 2025. WD (Withdrew, no credit granted) grade assigned for class(es) dropped during this period.
18. February 17, 2025 is the tuition and fee refund deadline – 50%
19. UWaterloo Winter 2025 Reading Week is from February 18, 2025 to February 26, 2025. All classes are cancelled; offices are closed on the weekends and on holiday Monday.
20. Family Day is February 20, 2025. All classes are cancelled and offices closed.
21. Drop with WD ends on March 24, 2025. It is the last day to drop a class and receive a WD (Withdrew, no credit granted) grade.
22. Drop with WF begins on March 25, 2025. WF (Withdrew/Failure, no credit granted, value 32) grade assigned for class(es) dropped during this period.
23. Good Friday is on April 7, 2025. No final examinations are held and offices are closed.
24. Winter 2025 classes end on April 10, 2025. Laurier may have a different schedule.
25. Make-up day for Good Friday is on April 10, 2025. The loss of a Friday class on April 7 will be made up by following a Friday schedule on April 10.
26. Pre-examination study days are April 11, 2025 and April 12, 2025.
27. Drop with WF ends on April 12, 2025. It is the last day to drop a class without a petition and receive a WF (Withdrew/Failure, no credit granted, value 32) grade.
28. UWaterloo Winter 2025 Final examinations begin from April 13, 2025 to April 28, 2025.
29. The co-operative work term ends for winter 2025 on April 28, 2025. Actual dates may vary depending on the employer or student requirements.
30. Winter 2025 Grades begin to appear in Quest on April 29, 2025. Registered students can view their unofficial term grades in Quest. Not all grades will be available on this date.
31. Standing decisions and official grades are available in Quest on May 19, 2025. Registered students can view their official and complete term grades, along with academic standing, in Quest.

UWaterloo reading week 2025

UWaterloo Reading Week 2025 is from Saturday, February 18, 2025 to Sunday, February 26, 2025. All classes are cancelled, offices are closed on the weekends and on holiday Monday. Reading weeks occur in the fall and winter terms; they start with the Saturday before the public holidays of Thanksgiving Day and Family Day and end on the following Sunday.

During UWaterloo reading week, normal class schedules and academic requirements are suspended for a specified period of time. Classes resume after reading week on Monday, February 27, 2025.

25. Civic Day is August 7, 2025. No final examinations are held and offices are closed.
26. Spring 2025 Grades begin to appear in uWaterloo Quest on August 20, 2025. Registered students can view their unofficial term grades in Quest. Not all grades will be available on this date.
27. The co-operative work term ends on August 25, 2025. The actual dates may vary depending on the employer or student requirements.
