How to log into rutgers canvas

There are two ways to log into canvas Rutgers. Instructions on how to login to Rutgers Canvas with the Rutgers NetID or Email Address are shown below:

NetID Login

1. Navigate to canvas.rutgers.edu.
2. Click the NetID Login button located on the top of the page.
3. Enter your NetID and Password and click LOGIN.
4. When you log in, you will see your Canvas Dashboard.

On the Dashboard, you will only see the courses you have access to.

Email login

Step 1: Set up your password

If you already know your password, skip to Step 2.

1. Navigate to the Canvas Email Login Page, and click on Forgot password?
2. Type your email address and click the Request Password button.
3. Return to your email account and sign in. Open the email Forgot Password: Canvas. The sender is [email protected].
4. Click the “Click here to set a new password” link.
5. After you have changed your password, you will be brought back to the Canvas Login Page.

Step 2: Log into canvas

1. Navigate to canvas.rutgers.edu.
2. Enter your Email for the Login ID and the Password from Step 1.
3. When you log in, you will see your Canvas Dashboard.

Can’t log in?

If you have never used Canvas as a Student, or Guest, your account may need to be activated.

Your account will be automatically activated when the rosters are added to the course. This usually occurs about a month before the start of the semester.

If you are unable to log in, please email the help desk with your Rutgers NetID and which course site you need access to.

How to reset canvas rutgers password for email logins

These instructions below do not affect Rutgers NetID Passwords

There is an alternate way to log into Canvas using a Login ID as stated above. This login method may use your Email Address or Rutgers NetID with a different password.

You will need to set up this separate password. Follow the steps below to reset the password.

1. Go to the Rutgers Canvas Email Login, click on ‘Forgot password?‘
2. Enter your Net ID or Email address into the Login ID field. Then click Request Password.
3. Check your email, the email subject is “Forgot Password: Canvas” and the sender is [email protected]. Check your Spam/Junk folder if you do not see it.
4. Click on the link in the email and you will be brought to a page with the below information.
5. After you have changed your password, you will be brought back to the Canvas Login Page. Click on Email Login and use your Login ID and new password to access your account.
