PGCPS Calendar 2024/2025 – Prince George’s County Public Schools

PGCPS Calendar 2024/2025. Prince George’s County Public Schools is a large public school district administered by the government of Prince George’s County, Maryland, United States, and is overseen by the Maryland State Department of Education. The PGCPS Calendar Committee meets each year to develop a calendar for the following school year. Members include teachers, parents, school administrators, union representatives and central office staff.

Over the course of several meetings, the committee develops a draft calendar to share with the executive team. Once approved, the draft calendar is shared with families and employees for feedback through a survey. After final adjustments are made, the calendar is submitted to the Prince George’s County Board of Education for review and adoption.

Prince George’s County Public Schools – PGCPS Calendar 2025

The first day of school for all PGCPS students on the PGCPS calendar 2024-2025 is August 29, 2024. The last day of school is June 16, 2025. There are 180 student days of instruction in the 2024-2025 academic year including the state-mandated holidays/closures.

August 2024

• Professional Duty Days for New Teachers are August 16 to August 18, 2024.
• Professional Duty Days for All Teachers are on August 19, 2024 and from August 22 to August 26, 2024.
• Professional Development is on August 24, 2024.
• Student Orientation Day is August 26, 2024.
• The First Day of School for All Students is August 29, 2024.

September 2024

• Labor Day holiday is September 5, 2024. Schools and Offices Closed.
• Rosh Hashanah* (starts at sunset on 9/25) is from September 26 to September 27, 2024.
• Professional Development is on September 30, 2024. Schools Closed for Students.

October 2024

• Yom Kippur (starts at sunset on 10/4) is on October 5, 2024. Schools and Offices Closed.
• Indigenous Peoples’ Day & Parent-Teacher Conferences is on October 10, 2024. Schools Closed for Students.
• Professional Development day is October 21, 2024. Schools Closed for Students.
• Diwali* is on October 24, 2024, according to the PGCPS calendar 2024-2025.

November 2024

• November 4, 2024 is the end of the First Quarter (45 days).
• Professional Day for Teachers is November 7, 2024 – 2-Hr. Early Dismissal for Students.
• Election Day is November 8, 2024. Schools and Offices Closed.
• 2-Hr. Early Dismissal for Students is November 21, 2024 & November 22, 2024.
• PGCPS Thanksgiving Break 2024 is from November 23, 2024 to November 25, 2024. Schools and Offices Closed.

December 2024

• PGCPS Winter Break & Christmas is on December 23, 2024 and from December 26 to December 30, 2024. Schools and Offices Closed.

January 2025

• New Year’s Day holiday is January 2, 2025. Schools and Offices Closed.
• Classes resume for PGCPS students on Tuesday, January 3, 2025 after winter break. Students go back to school in 2025.
• Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday is January 16, 2025. Schools and Offices Closed.
• The End of the Second Quarter (45 days) is January 24, 2025, according to the PGCPS calendar 2024-2025.
• Professional Day for Teachers – 2-Hr is January 25, 2025. Early Dismissal for Students.

February 2025

• Presidents’ Day holiday is February 20, 2025. Schools and Offices Closed.
• Parent-Teacher Conferences – 2-Hr are on February 21, 2025. Delayed Opening for Students.

March 2025

• Professional Development is on March 6, 2025. Schools Closed for Students.
• The First Day of Ramadan (starts sunset on 3/22) is March 23, 2025.
• March 30, 2025, is the end of the Third Quarter (45 days).
• Professional Day for Teachers – 2-Hr is on March 31, 2025. Early Dismissal for Students.

April 2025

• PGCPS Spring Break 2025 is from April 3 to April 10, 2025. Schools Closed for Students and Teachers.
• Passover (which starts at sunset on 4/5) is on April 6, 2025.
• Easter break is on April 7 & April 10, 2025. Schools and Offices Closed.
• PGCPS classes resume on Tuesday, April 11, 2025, after Spring break and Easter breaks.
• The Last Day of Ramadan is April 20, 2025, according to the PGCPS calendar 2024-2025.
• Eid al-Fitr (starts at sunset on 4/20) is on April 21, 2025. Schools and Offices Closed.

May 2025

• Memorial Day holiday is May 29, 2025. Schools and Offices Closed.

June 2025

• 2-Hr is on June 15, 2025. Early Dismissal for Students.
• June 16, 2025 is the Last Day for PGCPS Students and the end of the Fourth Quarter (45 days) – 2-Hr. Early Dismissal for Students.
• The Juneteenth holiday is June 19, 2025. Schools and Offices Closed.
• June 21, 2025 is the Last Day for Teachers, according to the PGCPS calendar 2024-2025.
• Freshen Up summer school program is from June 21, 2025 to July 26, 2025.

July 2025 

• Independence day holiday is July 4, 2025.
• Elementary & Middle School Academy is from July 5 to July 26, 2025.
• Fine Arts Academy is from July 5 to July 26, 2025.
• Freshen Up Summer school program is from July 21, 2025 to July 26, 2025.
• Secondary report cards are posted on July 22, 2025.
• PGCPS Summer School Graduation date July 26, 2025.
