McGill Mail – Helpful Guide to Access McGill Email | McGill University. As a McGill University student, you’re given a McGill Mail to access important info the university will send you. It is a Microsoft Outlook email that includes a web-based email client, a calendar tool, etc.
How to log into McGill Mail
To access McGill Mail,
- To access Outlook on the Web App (OWA), go to outlook.com/mcgill.ca.
- You will be prompted to sign in with your McGill Username and Password
- The first time you sign in, you will be prompted to select your Language and Time Zone preferences:
- Then you will be redirected to the Outlook web interface. If you don’t see your Inbox folder, click the arrow to expand the Folders.
- You can switch between Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Tasks via the icons at the bottom of the folders pane.
- Click on the waffle icon in the upper left corner to access other Office 365 apps, including People, Calendar, OneDrive, etc. (the apps you see will depend on your role at McGill).
- To adjust your McGill mail settings, click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the window and choose View all Outlook settings. There are many mail options, from Layout, Rules, and Automatic replies to Junk email (block/allow senders).
How to set up McGill mail on your iOS device (iPhone, iPad)
The Outlook app from Microsoft is the recommended way to get your McGill email on iOS devices. It is the only app that gives you the full features of Outlook and supports Two-Factor Authentication, which is required for students, faculty, and staff entering McGill.
- Download and install the Microsoft Outlook app on your iOS device.
- Enter your McGill email address (the same as your McGill Username unless you have created an alias); then click Sign in with Office 365.
- You will be brought to McGill’s sign-in page. Enter your McGill password and click Sign in.
- If prompted to accept notifications from Outlook, click Allow.
- Suppose your McGill account is enabled with Two-factor authentication (2FA). In that case, you may be prompted to enter your second authentication method, i.e., acknowledge a notification, or enter a code sent to your device.
- You should now start seeing your McGill emails.
- You can click the Filter button to view emails based on various attributes.
- The Focused Inbox is a feature that automatically learns from your behavior, moving emails you don’t usually open into the “Other” tab.
How to configure Mail app for iOS
You can configure and access McGill Mail via the Mail app on your ios device.
- Go to Settings.
- Choose Mail.
- Select Accounts.
- Select Add Account.
- Choose Exchange.
- Enter the following information on the Exchange account information screen:
- Email: Enter your McGill Username
- Description: McGill Email
- Once you have filled in the information, tap Next.
- You will be prompted to Sign in to your “mcgill.ca” Exchange account using Microsoft. Choose Sign in.
- On the McGill sign-in page (adfs.mcgill.ca), your McGill Username will already be filled in. Enter the Password associated with your McGill Username and tap Sign in.
- Suppose your McGill account is enabled with Two-factor authentication (2FA). In that case, you may be prompted to enter your second authentication method, i.e., acknowledge a notification, or enter a code sent to your device.
- You should now see the Exchange screen, where you can select the apps you want to use with your McGill Exchange account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc.). Tap Save to complete the setup.
- Your McGill Exchange account is now configured. You may wish to modify the sync settings to keep more (or less) Exchange data on your device.
Configure your Android device to receive McGill Exchange email
- Go to the Google Play store and download the Microsoft Outlook app.
- Once the app is installed, you will be prompted to “Get Started.”
- Enter your McGill email address (first.last@mcgill.ca, first.last@mail.mcgill.ca or first.last@affiliate.mcgill.ca) and click Continue.
- You will be prompted with McGill’s sign-in page to enter your McGill Username and McGill Password.
- Approve the sign-in request. You will either receive a 6-digit SMS code or a popup message to verify your identity, depending on the options you selected when setting up your Two Factor Authentication for McGill.
- When all this is done, and the account is created, you should see a screen asking if you would like to add another account.
