Following President William Ruto’s return from an international vacation, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results will be revealed today.

Before making the results public, the Education Cabinet Secretary and the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) will brief and report the results to the President.

Dr. Ruto returned to the United States on Monday evening following a one-week trip abroad.

Some education officials told us yesterday that they had been told to be “on standby” in case they were asked to attend the New Mitihani House release ceremony on short notice.

This is the second-to-last administration of the KCPE before the 8-4-4 system of education is eliminated from the primary school curriculum next year.

It would be the first time Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machaguo releases the KCPE exams.

It will also be the first time results are released from the new Knec headquarters, which took over 35 years to construct.

The release of the results is anticipated to be followed by Form One selection, most likely after Christmas to provide parents time to prepare their children for the January 24 school opening.

There were around 1,244,188 candidates registered for the examination, which was administered from November 28 to November 30. However, some candidates did not take the examination for a variety of reasons.

Candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) are anxiously awaiting their results, while their Grade 6 counterparts who took the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) are not.

This is the result of a recommendation by the Presidential Working Group on Education Reforms that the evaluation should not be used for placement into junior secondary school, hence removing the high stakes typically associated with national exams. The students will continue their transition to JSS in their present elementary schools.

The Kenya National Examinations Council is the national body responsible for overseeing national examinations in Kenya. Its current chairman is Professor John Onsati. This council was established under the Kenya National Examinations Council Act Cap 235A of the Laws of Kenya, in 1980. To use this method to check 2023/2024 results you only need to remember your index number and access your mobile phone or computer Here is the procedure:

• Visit the https://www.knec-portal.ac.ke/
• Check  for the KCPE Results tab, click on it
• Select the year you sat for the Exams
• Enter your Index number.
• Finally click the Submit button.
• Your KCPE results should show on the screen after a while.

For the SMS option, the candidates should send their index number, followed by the initials KCPE (in capital letters) to 20076 in order to access the results.
