To login,

  1. Visit RMIT login page.

How to log in for the first time

Step 1: Determine your RMIT ID and temporary password

Your RMIT ID (username) is the letter ‘s’ followed by your student number (excluding any additional letters). You’ll find your student number in your RMIT enrolment email.

Example: If your student number is 3123456D, then your RMIT ID would be s3123456.

Note: English language students based in Vietnam will have their RMIT ID starting with an ‘L’.

Your temporary password is the letter ‘p’ followed by your date of birth backwards, with an exclamation mark ‘!’ at the end.

Example: If your date of birth is 8 April 1998, then your password is p19980408!

Step 2: Change your password

Log in using your temporary login details (see above) and change your password to something hard to guess but easy to remember.

Step 3: Set up your self service details

After changing your password, set up your self service details. That way, if you ever forget your password, you can reset it yourself online.

  • Create new challenge questions and answers.
  • Make sure your mobile and personal email contact details are current.

How to Submit your Assignments in Canvas RMIT

An originality report is generated by scanning your work and comparing the text against sources in its database. The report shows where matches have been found with an overall percentage of how much of the text is original. Your submitted assignment is also added to the database to reduce plagiarism.

Submission requirements

Turnitin will accept the following file types for originality (plagiarism) checking:

  • Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)
  • OpenOffice (.odt)
  • Google Docs via Google Drive
  • WordPerfect (.wpd)
  • PostScript (.ps/.eps)
  • Adobe PDF (.pdf)
  • HTML
  • Rich text format (.rtf)

Files can be submitted directly from the local computer or via non-RMIT Google Drive or Dropbox accounts. You will need to log into these services to authorize the submission.

The assignment being submitted must contain more than 20 words, must be under 40 MB (or approximately two million characters), must not exceed 400 pages in length, and must not contain spaces in between every letter.

Submitting an assignment

  1. Navigate to Canvas via the RMIT Students homepage and select the Canvas (LMS) tab.
  2. Log in with your student username and password.
  3. Select the course you want from your RMIT Canvas Dashboard.
  4. Navigate to Assignments from the course navigation menu on the left of your screen.
  5. Click the relevant assignment.
  6. Click Submit assignment on the top right of the screen.
  7. Click Choose File.
  8. Find the file you wish to upload from the pop-up box that appears and double click or click Open to select the file.
  9. If you have multiple files to upload, then click on + Add another file.
  10. If you have any comments relevant to the assignment, then enter them in the Comments box.
  11. Check that the file and its details and everything you have entered is correct.
  12. Check the submission pledge box to acknowledge that the submission you’ve just uploaded is your own, original work.
  13. Click Submit assignment.
  14. A Turnitin digital receipt confirming your submission will be available from Turnitin. You can also print a copy of your digital receipt. The digital receipt contains the filename, assignment title, author, date, and time the assignment was submitted.

Re-submitting a turnitin assignment

By default, assignments can be submitted an unlimited number of times. However, your Instructor will determine whether you can submit your assignment for a specific or unlimited number of attempts. If there is a limit applied, the number of attempts is displayed on the assignments page. Limiting the number of attempts applies to all students assigned to the assignment.

  1. Navigate to Canvas via the RMIT Students homepage and select the Canvas (LMS) tab.
  2. Log in with your student username and password.
  3. Select the course you want from your Canvas Dashboard.

Viewing your submission and similarity score in Turnitin Feedback Studio

After you submit an assignment the Similarity score can be accessed from the View/Complete link for the assignment (if your Instructor has provided access for you to view the Similarity Report).

To view your submission click on the View button on the Assignment Inbox page. Your Turnitin Paper will open in Feedback Studio in a new window.

Note that there will be a 24-hour delay if you resubmit more than three times.

Feedback Studio is a new version of the Turnitin submission and marking tool that offers the same functionality in a simplified, more intuitive user interface. Feedback Studio allows you to view your submission and similarity score as well as receive feedback all in one place.
